Anchor-Tech Aerogel Felt in the Application of Combined Cooling, Heating, and Power Projects

Original Insulation Solution and Insulation Effect

The temperature of the gas boiler pipeline is around 500°C, and the original insulation materials used were rock wool and ceramic fibers with a thickness of 140mm. The surface temperature of the insulation material was approximately 145°C.

Original insulation

Existing Issues

  1. The original insulation layer was too thick, occupying a large space, making construction challenging in confined spaces.
  2. The short lifespan of the original insulation material required frequent maintenance and replacement, resulting in high maintenance costs.
  3. Poor structural strength of the original material led to uneven insulation and high heat loss. This increased the boiler load, subsequently raising operational costs.
  4. The original insulation material lacked waterproofing, posing a risk of pipeline corrosion and jeopardizing the ability to meet design pressure requirements.

Insulation Effect and Advantages of Using Aerogel Felt

Aerogel felt, made from high-performance aerogel insulation material using a special process, possesses a three-dimensional nano-network structure. This structure effectively reduces solid heat conduction and inhibits gas molecule convection through abundant nano-pores. The material’s absorption and reflection of thermal radiation enhance its insulation effect, surpassing conventional insulation materials by 3 to 5 times.

  1. Reduced Thickness: Compared to the original insulation material, AG65 aerogel felt significantly reduces the insulation layer thickness (from 150mm to 60mm). This reduction decreases the quantity of outer protective layers, lowering transportation and storage costs and facilitating construction in confined spaces.
  2. Improved Insulation Effect: AG65 aerogel felt demonstrates outstanding insulation with a thermal conductivity below 0.020 W/m·K at room temperature (25°C). Compared to the original insulation material, the insulation effect is enhanced 3 to 5 times, reducing heat loss and achieving energy-saving goals.
  3. Stable Performance: AG65 aerogel felt exhibits excellent tensile and compressive strength. It can withstand most acid-base environments, except hydrofluoric acid and strong alkalis, without decomposing or deteriorating. The unique nano three-dimensional network structure prevents the material from sintering deformation and settling, ensuring sustained performance in high-temperature environments.
  4. Extended Lifespan: AG65 aerogel felt has a long service life, with Arrhenius experiments indicating a lifespan of up to 20 years, reducing later maintenance costs and time.
  5. Fire-resistant and Water-repellent: AG65 aerogel felt is overall hydrophobic like a lotus leaf, preventing water from entering pipes and equipment. It is A-class fire-resistant, providing both insulation and fire protection.
  6. Convenient Construction: AG65 aerogel felt is lightweight and easy to install. Ordinary cutting tools can shape it according to complex components, curvature, and space constraints, reducing installation time and labor costs.
  7. Environmentally Friendly and Non-toxic: Aerogel felt is environmentally friendly and non-toxic. It does not release any toxic substances in high-temperature environments, containing no asbestos (across the entire series) or polybrominated biphenyls (flame retardant). The product itself, composed of inorganic materials, has minimal chlorine ion content and is non-corrosive to pipelines.
